How do i get from Kusadasi to Ephesus?
There are some transportation options like taxi, shared van ( called Dolmus in Turkish and spelled as Doll-moosh) in Kusadasi.
Taxi: You can see almost in every corner taxi stations with yellow taxis in the town. They do have a price list front of the station and they can offer some "return tour" without guiding (unlicensed guiding is a crime due to the constitution) and try to hook you up for other visits. Most of the time they will drop you of at the upper gate of Ephesus and expect you to coming out from the same upper gate which is very hard to climb up the hill that can be guelly at the end of the tour with the heat in the high season.
Dolmus ( pronounced Doll- moush): These are the shared vans which they have a specific route that the route is written at the windshield. They have stations like bus stations but if you do want to stop one and hop on you should wave your hand otherways it will pass by. When you hop on the is a price list above the driver that you can pay with Turkish Lira, USD or Euro's (only with bill not with coins). When you want to hop off you dont have to wait till the station is coming, just say stop ( DUR in Turkish-pron. DOUR) and it will stop ( pay attantion for the scooters when you hop off).
For Ephesus you have to use two different dolmus.First one is from the city to the Kusadasi Bus Station and from the Bust Station to Selcuk.Selcuk is the closest town to Ephesus and the Ancient City of Ephesus locating before Selcuk town and it has another small detour which the dolmus doesnt turns so you have to hop off at the road junction and walk around 2 miles from the main street to reach the lower gate of Ephesus.
When you want to turn back to Kusadasi at the end of your visit, you have to walk from lower gate of Ephesus to the main road and wait for another dolmus to go to the Selcuk Bus Station and change your dolmus for Kusadasi.
People spending more time, effort and money for their transportation with both of those options.
What do i recommend first as a traveller then as a professional licensed tour guide is a private tour for only couple dollars more then you would spend to reach to the sites. Your private tour guide will help you dodge the crowd, showing the highlights which are important, telling the story about everything.
